The Desert Heights Prep Yote will venture away from home to challenge the Valley Lutheran Flames at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Desert Heights Prep is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Desert Heights Prep came out on top against Salome on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run fourth inning. The Yote's pitcher stepped up to hand the Frogs a 12-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Yote in their matchups with the Frogs: they've now won six in a row.
Kyson Kobbe made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, Desert Heights Prep let Josh Orozco and Jesse Aguon run wild. Orozco went 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run, while Aguon went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most hits Orozco has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Justin Aguon, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Anthem Prep hit Valley Lutheran with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Flames came up short against the Eagles, falling 11-1. The Flames have struggled against the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Valley Lutheran saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brennan Larson, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles.
Desert Heights Prep's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-2-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Valley Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
Saturday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Desert Heights Prep has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .454. However, it's not like Valley Lutheran struggles in that department as they've averaged .496. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Desert Heights Prep took their win against Valley Lutheran in their previous matchup back in March by a conclusive 12-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Yote since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
