Baseball Game Preview: Milken Wildcats vs. Oxnard Yellowjackets

The Milken Wildcats will head out on the road to square off against the Oxnard Yellowjackets at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Oxnard took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Milken, who comes in off a win.

Milken's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. They came out on top against Foothill Tech by a score of 5-0. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wildcats.

Not much got past Jordan Liebman, who gave up just five hits to keep Foothill Tech off the board. Liebman has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Elijah Shokrian was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He also brought in three RBI, which is notable because Milken is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 3-5 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jared Dunn, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Oxnard was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost an 11-9 heartbreaker at the hands of Santa Barbara. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Yellowjackets have suffered since April 19, 2024.

Steven Lira was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with four RBI and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Noah Guzman was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Milken now has a winning record of 6-5. As for Oxnard, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.

Milken might still be hurting after the 7-1 defeat they got from Oxnard when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can Milken avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
