Basketball Recap: Escondido Charter Snaps Three-Game Streak of Wins at Home

If Escondido Charter was riding high fresh off their 78-56 takedown of Mission Vista last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Escondido Charter Tigers fell 53-40 to the Tri-City Christian Eagles on Friday. The Tigers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the loss, Escondido Charter still got an impressive performance from Joe Scates, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. With that strong performance, Scates is now averaging an impressive 8.1 boards per game. Another player making a difference was Max Mowrey, who posted nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Tri-City Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joel Valverde led the charge by going 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Those five steals gave Valverde a new career-high. Jeramiah Turner was another key player, putting up 15 points and five steals.

Escondido Charter's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12. As for Tri-City Christian, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-6.

Escondido Charter will be playing at home against St. Joseph Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Escondido Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.6 points per game this season. As for Tri-City Christian, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 51-41 win against Paloma Valley on the 18th.
