Apex faced Fuquay - Varina in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Cougars slipped by the Bengals 7-6. The victory was familiar territory for the Cougars, who have now won four games in a row.

Apex's win bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Fuquay - Varina, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-3.
