Shafter is a perfect 5-0 against Delano since February of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Generals will square off against the Tigers at 4:00 p.m. Shafter is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.
Shafter came out on top against Taft on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run fifth inning. The Generals had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Generals have posted against the Wildcats since March 24, 2022.
Cassidy Torres was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off 13 hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one RBI.
Torres wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maddison Ortiz, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Another was Miranda Ascencio, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Delano took on Orosi on Friday. The Tigers came out on top against the Cardinals by a score of 8-3. That looming 8-3 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Tigers yet this season.
Dezarae Pimentel was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one run.
Delano kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in February.
Delano's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-15-1. As for Shafter, their record now sits at 15-6-2.
Delano's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Shafter hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .363. It's a different story for Delano, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Shafter's hitters?
Shafter took their victory against Delano when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 14-0 score. Will the Generals repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
