Softball Recap: Switzerland County Comes Up Short

Switzerland County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 18-2 to the Rising Sun Shiners. The Pacers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Shiners from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Switzerland County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bri Stow, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Rising Sun, their victory was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Rising Sun's side, Emily Oatman made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Oatman has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Lexi Morris was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lily Courtney also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Switzerland County has already played their next match, a 14-3 loss against Providence on the 22nd. As for Rising Sun, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 6-0 victory against South Ripley on the 23rd.
