Softball Recap: Switzerland County Comes Up Short

Switzerland County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Monday, dropping their season record down to 0-4 in the process. They lost 18-2 to the Rising Sun Shiners. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Pacers of the 13-2 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Switzerland County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bri Stow, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

As for Rising Sun, their win was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games.

On Rising Sun's side, Emily Oatman made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Oatman has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Lexi Morris was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. Lily Courtney also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.

Switzerland County has already played their next game, a 14-3 loss against Providence on the 22nd. As for Rising Sun, they will venture away from home to challenge South Ripley at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Raiders have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.25 runs per game on average), something the Shiners will no doubt try to take advantage of.
