Basketball Recap: Jaxson Vasicek's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Columbus over Fremont

Columbus was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 60-55 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fremont Tigers. The Discoverers were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Several Discoverers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jaxson Vasicek, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds. Ryder Bock was another key player, putting up eight points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Columbus was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Leading Fremont to victory were Maurice Bryant and Zach Keaton. Bryant posted 23 points, while Keaton went 5 of 9 en route to 17 points and six rebounds. Keaton's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Kieryn Grothe, who earned ten points.

Columbus' defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Fremont, they pushed their record up to 8-7 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home.

Columbus has already played their next matchup, a 62-53 victory against Norfolk on the 31st. As for Fremont, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 70-48 loss against Lincoln Northeast on the 29th.
