Softball Game Preview: Hazen Highlanders vs. Sammamish RedHawks

The Hazen Highlanders will square off against the Sammamish RedHawks at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Hazen has given up an average of 19.5 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Hazen turned things around against Bellevue on Wednesday. They blew past the Wolverines 20-13. The Highlanders' offense finally found a way to get into gear: the high-octane performance was a 180-degree turn from their last four games.

Kimberly Cushman was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. That stolen base marked the first that she snagged this season. Mia Mennillo was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 15 runs the game before, Sammamish was a bit more limited in their game on Wednesday. They came up short against Mount Si, falling 18-1.

Sammamish dropped their record down to 3-7-1 with the defeat, which was their third straight at home. As for Hazen, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 2-6.
