Apple Valley and Sultana are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2022, but likely not for long. The Sun Devils will be playing at home against the Sultans at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Sultana took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Apple Valley, who comes in off a win.
While Apple Valley's victory against Burroughs wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Sun Devils skirted past the Burros 3-2.
Andrew Wilson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Grimm, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Sultana was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They came up short against Hesperia, falling 19-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Sultans have suffered since February 25, 2025.
LJ Borrego was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. Borrego was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Borrego wasn't the only one making solid contact as eight players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Sappington, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles. That home run was Sappington's first of the season. Isac Gamez was another, going 2-for-5 with three RBI and one double.
Apple Valley is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-6 record this season. As for Sultana, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.
Apple Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Sultana in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Sun Devils have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Sultans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
