Dynamic duo of Levi Cavalli and Anthony Bonelli lead Hayfork to victory

Recap: Hayfork Timberjacks vs. Surprise Valley Hornets

The Hayfork Timberjacks waltzed into their match on Tuesday with nine straight wins but they left with ten. They walked away with a 70-62 win over Surprise Valley. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.

Hayfork was led to victory by Levi Cavalli and Anthony Bonelli. Cavalli dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Bonelli dropped a double-double on 24 points and 19 rebounds. Cavalli hasn't dropped below two steals for 14 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Evan Pickett, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

When it comes to explaining why Surprise Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Casey Grove. Despite the final result, he scored 27 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Grove has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. Iina Nabahe-Henry was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.

Hayfork is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Surprise Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hayfork will take on Butte Valley at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Butte Valley is on a three-game streak of home wins, Hayfork a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Surprise Valley, they will head out on the road to face off against Tulelake at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in California (Tulelake is ranked 1285th, while Surprise Valley is ranked 1284th).
