Soccer Game Preview: Douglas Byrd vs. Cape Fear

Douglas Byrd is 0-10 against Cape Fear since April of 2019 but things could change on Tuesday. The Eagles will take on the Colts at 7:00 p.m. Douglas Byrd has given up an average of 7.2 goals per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Douglas Byrd is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game last Thursday. They came up short against Gray's Creek, falling 11-0. While losing is never fun, Douglas Byrd can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Gray's Creek are ranked 166th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cape Fear). Their defense stepped up to hand Seventy-First a 10-0 shutout last Friday. The win continues a trend for Cape Fear in their matchups with Seventy-First: they've now won eight in a row.

Cape Fear's victory bumped their record up to 10-3-2. As for Douglas Byrd, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-10.

Douglas Byrd might still be hurting after the 9-0 loss they got from Cape Fear in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
