Berlyn Holibaugh and Julia Resnik made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Holibaugh tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Resnik pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Holibaugh scored three runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4, while Resnik scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alivia Grimm, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
Meanwhile, Laurel Highlands made easy work of Oakland Catholic on Wednesday and carried off a 10-2 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Mustangs.
Izzy Coleman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Kayla Howell was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-2. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chloe Komacko, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Laurel Highlands hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oakland Catholic struck out seven times.
Laurel Highlands pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Elizabeth Forward, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
Laurel Highlands' hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Elizabeth Forward has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Laurel Highlands, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 strikeouts. Will Elizabeth Forward keep running through batters, or will the Mustangs buck the trend?
