Preview: Merrill Vandals vs. St. Charles Bulldogs
Merrill is 2-8 against St. Charles since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Merrill Vandals will be playing in front of their home fans against the St. Charles Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Merrill scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They blew past Carson City-Crystal 50-14 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Merrill has managed all season.
Meanwhile, St. Charles entered their tilt with Coleman with seven consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with eight. St. Charles blew past Coleman, posting a 63-22 win at home. St. Charles has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matches by 23 points or more this season.
St. Charles found their leader in underclassman Allison Zelinko, who scored 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Zelinko has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Emily Zelinko, who scored ten points along with seven steals and six assists.
Merrill's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-6. As for St. Charles, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-1.
Merrill was taken down by St. Charles 60-17 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Thankfully for Merrill, Bailey Stimac (who scored 11 points along with six assists and six steals) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
