For the first time this season, Gunn will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will welcome the Milpitas Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gunn is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
On Saturday, Gunn came up short against Menlo-Atherton and fell 7-4.
Allison Novick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Tess Bogart was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Milpitas). They won by a run and slipped past Los Altos 8-7. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Marissa Gil made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Gil was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
In other batting news, Milpitas let Casandra Curiel and Sophia Delgado run wild. Curiel went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI, while Delgado scored a run while going 2-for-5. What's more, Delgado posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of April Price, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Milpitas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Milpitas' first win this season bumped their record up to 1-7. As for Gunn, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-4.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Gunn hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .328. However, it's not like Milpitas struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Gunn's way against Milpitas in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, as Gunn made off with a 9-2 victory. Will Gunn repeat their success, or does Milpitas has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
