Basketball Recap: Bland County Comes Up Short

Bland County lost against Fort Chiswell back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Bland County Bears fell just short of the Fort Chiswell Pioneers by a score of 53-50. That's two games in a row now that the Bears have lost by exactly three points.

Fort Chiswell found their leader in freshman Owen Jackson, who went 8 for 20 on his way to 27 points in addition to six boards and three steals. The matchup was Jackson's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Brayden Billings was another key player, going 5 of 11 en route to 11 points and eight rebounds.

Bland County has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season. As for Fort Chiswell, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bland County will challenge Auburn at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort Chiswell, they will take on Grayson County at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Fort Chiswell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67.3 points per game this season.
