Maple Mountain had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They walked away with a 4-1 win over the Dixie Flyers on Thursday. Winning may never get old, but the Golden Eagles sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row dating back to last season.
Chase Johnston spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits and racked up 13 Ks. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, Cy Chrisman was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was AJ Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.
Looking ahead, Maple Mountain will take on Springville in a tournament on Friday. As for Dixie, they will host Box Elder at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.
