Basketball Recap: Wausau West Piles Up the Points Against Wausau East

Wausau West posted their biggest victory since December 10, 2024 on Tuesday. They breezed past the Wausau East Lumberjacks to the tune of 80-44. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 40-18.

Wausau West got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Paige Anderson out in front who went 10-for-18 en route to 19 points along with six assists and six boards. Anderson is becoming a predictor of Wausau West's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is 4-2 (and 4-13 when she doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Harper Mead, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 14 points and four blocks.

Anderson wasn't the only one working in the assist department: Wausau West was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Wausau East still got an impressive performance from Evelyn Thome, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 17 rebounds. Thome is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least ten every time she's taken the court this season. Alaina Baken also deserves some recognition as she scored her first points of the season.

The victory made it two in a row for Wausau West and bumps their season record up to 8-15. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points over those games. As for Wausau East, they are on an 18-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-17.

Wausau West didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 79-47 defeat against Marshfield on the 14th. As for Wausau East, they will look to defend their home court on February 18th against Rhinelander at 7:15 p.m.
