Preview: Hug Hawks vs. McQueen Lancers

Hug is 0-10 against McQueen since January of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Hug Hawks will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against the McQueen Lancers at 11:30 a.m. Hug is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.

Hug managed to keep up with Dayton until halftime last Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Hug was the victim of a tough 57-34 defeat at the hands of Dayton. Hug has struggled against Dayton recently, as their match last Saturday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Hug's defeat came about despite a quality game from Karen Salgado, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Precious Palaita, who scored eight points.

Meanwhile, McQueen struggled with assists on Thursday (Bishop Manogue had 24 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. McQueen took a serious blow against Bishop Manogue, falling 64-10. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points McQueen has scored all season.

They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Camilla Carlson and Audrey Baumgardner, who each put up three points. Jaleigh Fred held things down on the boards with seven rebounds. She took the lead distributing the ball, coming up with an assist.

Hug bumped their record down to 0-6 with that loss, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.5 points per game. As for McQueen, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-6.

Hug lost to McQueen on the road by a decisive 64-49 margin in their previous matchup back in February of 2020. Thankfully for Hug, Alisi Peaua (who scored 14 points along with six rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
