Softball Game Preview: Oxford Chargers vs. Lewisburg Patriots

Oxford hasn't had much luck against Lewisburg recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Chargers will welcome the Patriots at 6:00 p.m. Oxford will be strutting in after a victory while Lewisburg will be coming in after a defeat.

Oxford was handed a 14-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Mantachie 4-3.

Oxford's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Mary-Claire King, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run. Another was Jayla Dukes, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Lewisburg faced Hernando in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Patriots lost 8-0 to the Tigers. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Patriots were not able to get on the board.

Oxford's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-13. As for Lewisburg, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 15-12 record this season.

Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Oxford hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .321. However, it's not like Lewisburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
