Soccer Game Preview: Gateway vs. Hempfield Area

The Gateway Gators will take on the Hempfield Area Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gateway's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Gateway's offense. They fell just short of Central Catholic by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Gateway can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania soccer rankings (they are ranked 282nd, while Central Catholic are ranked 44th).

Meanwhile, Hempfield Area also failed to score in their most recent game. They came up short against Plum on Tuesday, falling 3-0. Hempfield Area have struggled against Plum recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.

Hempfield Area's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Gateway, their loss dropped their record down to 3-10.

Gateway took their win against Hempfield Area in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 5-0 score. Will the Gators repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
