Softball Recap: Clinton Prairie Extends Winning Streak to Four

Clinton Prairie extended their winning streak to four on Friday, bumping their season record up to 13-4 in the process. Everything went their way against the North Montgomery Chargin' Chargers as they made off with a 13-3 win. The result was nothing new for the Gophers, who have now won 11 games by seven runs or more so far this season.

Maddy Wessell spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brenna Riley, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Keera Grizzle, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four runs.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Clinton Prairie lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

As for North Montgomery, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season. That's two games in a row now that they have lost by exactly ten runs.

On North Montgomery's side, Sophie Welshimer was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.

Coming up, Clinton Prairie will take on Fountain Central at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Montgomery, they will host Tri-County at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargin' Chargers will need to watch out since the Cavaliers have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
