Softball Recap: Mott Takes a Loss

Mott extended their losing streak to 11 on Monday, dropping their season record down to 1-22 in the process. They came up short against the Milford Mavericks, falling 15-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mavericks this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 12-2 on Monday.

As for Milford, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-10. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matches by nine runs or more this season.

For Milford's part, Lauren Elkins was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over five innings pitched. Elkins has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Marisa Merz and Dani Heer did most of the damage at the plate: Merz went 1-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Heer went 1-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three runs gave Heer a new career-high. Tori Russell was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three runs.

Mott has already played their next game (against Clawson), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for Milford, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Walled Lake Western at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.43 runs per game on average), something the Mavericks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
