Basic has gone a perfect 3-0 against Legacy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Wolves will square off against the Longhorns at 3:30 p.m. Basic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.1 runs per game this season.
Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Liberty, who was ranked 11th at the time (Basic was ranked second). The Wolves blew past the Patriots 17-4 on Wednesday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Matthew Kelley made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in seven consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other pitching news, Jeremiah Mendoza looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Basic let Brandon Lord and Ace Sapp run wild. Lord got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI, while Sapp fired off two home runs and three RBI while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Those two home runs gave Sapp a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lyndon Lee, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run and one stolen base.
Basic hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Wednesday just wasn't the day for Legacy's offense. They came up short against Arbor View on Wednesday, falling 13-0. The Longhorns have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Legacy saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tyson Lake, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Basic has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Legacy, their loss dropped their record down to 13-10.
Basic beat Legacy 5-1 when the teams last played back in March of 2023. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wolves since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
