Soccer Game Preview: Newton vs. Teutopolis

The Newton Eagles will venture away from home to square off against the Teutopolis Wooden Shoes at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Newton knows how to get goals on the board -- the squad has finished with four goals or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Teutopolis likes a good challenge.

Newton barely beat St. Teresa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 4-0 margin over the Bulldogs on Saturday. Give Newton's defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

They hit St. Teresa with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Brock Anderson (2), Henry Will, and Luke Farley.

Meanwhile, Teutopolis earned a 3-1 victory over Centralia on Thursday. The final result isn't all that surprising considering Teutopolis' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 147th, while Centralia are ranked 331st).

Teutopolis has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2-2 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 36 goals over those seven matches. As for Newton, their record now sits at 13-2.

Newton beat Teutopolis 3-1 in their previous meeting back in August. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Wooden Shoes have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
