AAAA Region 8 recap September 24, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 8 this week, Monroe Area beat Lumpkin County 49-3,. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Hurricanes.
Chestatee was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. The War Eagles beat Eastside 33-23 earlier in the week.
Walnut Grove's dynamic duo of Tucker Laughlin and Dj Rivers proved to be unstoppable against Stephens County, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Laughlin threw for 229 yards and Rivers had 111 yards receiving.
The Warriors' dynamic duo of Laughlin and Rivers proved tough for the Indians to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week.
Laughlin put up the best numbers in passing as Walnut Grove fell to Stephens County.
Kwan Brooks was the most successful running back in the league this week. In 11 carries, he ran for 181 yards as Monroe Area fell to Travis Noland's team. Demek Kemp also contributed to the rushing game with 72 yards on the ground.
Rivers was the best receiver in AAAA Region 8 this week as the Warriors fell to the Indians.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Michael Gallup. The Monroe Area star has 9 catches for 256 yards.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Monroe Area takes on second place Lanier. Last week, Matt Fligg's team topped the Indians, while Lanier beat Madison County.
Fans will be treated to a premier battle in the secondary when the Hurricanes' Gallup goes up against Lanier's Jesse Landers.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Bill Wells' team takes on Monroe Area. Lanier has allowed 29 points this season, while the Hurricanes have given up 38. Lanier allowed 8 points last week as it beat the Red Raiders.
Monroe Area took down Lumpkin County 49-3 last week, the largest margin of any game. Brooks caught 1 pass for 25 yards in the win.
