Basketball Game Preview: Channel Islands Raiders vs. Buena Bulldogs

Channel Islands hasn't had much luck against Buena recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Channel Islands Raiders will face off against the Buena Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. Channel Islands will be strutting in after a victory while Buena will be coming in after a defeat.

Channel Islands' tournament run continued when they took on Carpinteria last Monday. Channel Islands enjoyed a cozy 62-46 win over Carpinteria. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Raiders.

Channel Islands' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Chris Anguiano, who posted 17 points along with seven boards and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Nazir Ivey, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 12 points and five rebounds.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 76 points the game before, Buena was a bit more limited in their contest on Saturday. They were dealt an 81-24 loss at the hands of Wilsonville. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 703rd in California, while the Wildcats are ranked 43rd in Oregon).

Channel Islands has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.8 points per game. As for Buena, they dropped their record down to 5-10 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

Channel Islands was taken down by Buena 77-49 in their previous meeting back in January of 2022. Can Channel Islands avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
