Basketball Recap: Peoria Panthers vs. Coconino Panthers
Peoria was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took an 80-72 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Coconino Panthers. If Peoria was looking for revenge after losing 54-34 to them when the teams met back in January of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.
Coconino's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oryon Huayhualla, who dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 boards. The game was Huayhualla's third in a row with at least 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Mortensen, who went 6 for 7 on his way to 12 points.
Peoria's loss dropped their record down to 7-14. As for Coconino, their victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-7.
Peoria wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 65-47 defeat against Westview on the 11th. As for Coconino, they will be playing at home against Flagstaff at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Coconino is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.7 points per game this season.
