Softball Recap: Orr Takes a Loss

Orr dropped their record down to 10-2-1 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Whitney Young Dolphins, falling 19-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Spartans have suffered since May 15, 2024.

As for Whitney Young, they pushed their record up to 18-10-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Considering they have won ten games by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

For Whitney Young's part, Emily Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Rodriguez posted five strikeouts, the most she's had over her last five matches. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

In other pitching news, Claire Swanborn looked comfortable as she tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Chiqui Vazquez was incredible, going 1-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Mara Finnigan was another key player, going 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.

Orr does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Whitney Young, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 16-0 victory against Hancock on the 6th.
