Baseball Recap: Alhambra Gets the Win

Alhambra hadn't done well against Acalanes recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Dons 3-2. This was payback for the Bulldogs, who suffered a 1-0 loss the last time these two teams met.

Jovani 'Jojo' Preston was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other pitching news, Ethan Kushner looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances.

Preston wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ali Cepeda Jr, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Alhambra's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 10-6. As for Acalanes, they dropped their record down to 8-7-1 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Alhambra will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Dons: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
