Softball Recap: Otay Ranch Drops Highest Score of Season Against San Marcos

Otay Ranch scored the most runs they've had this season on Saturday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 10-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the San Marcos Knights. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Knights apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Kaylin Phillips and Venice Inguito stepped up to the plate in a big way. Phillips went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double, while Inguito scored a run while going 1-for-2. That's the most RBI Phillips has posted since back in May of 2024.

Even though they lost, Otay Ranch hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.

Otay Ranch now has a losing record of 1-2-1. As for San Marcos, their win bumped their record up to 2-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Otay Ranch will venture away from home to square off against Torrey Pines at 4:00 p.m. on March 17th. As for San Marcos, they will hit the road for the first time this season to face off against Carlsbad at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. San Marcos is facing Carlsbad at the right time seeing as Carlsbad is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
