Basketball Recap: Appomattox County Takes a Loss

Appomattox County and Nelson County squared off in some playoff action on Tuesday, but Appomattox County had to settle for second. They took a 48-39 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nelson County Governors. The matchup marked the Raiders' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

When it comes to explaining why Appomattox County lost, don't look at Riley Chandler. Despite the final result, he shot 86% from the field on his way to 17 points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Chandler a new career-high in points. Josiah Perry also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Nelson County was led to victory by Bryce Giles and Colton Ward. Giles dropped a double-double with 17 points and 12 boards, while Ward dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. The game was Giles' ninth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Jack Winter, who posted nine points.

Appomattox County's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-9. As for Nelson County, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season.

Appomattox County does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Nelson County, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 49-48 win against Gretna on the 27th.
