Softball Preview: Kennedy Cougars vs. Sierra Canyon Trailblazers
The Kennedy Cougars will venture away from home to face off against the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kennedy will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.
Kennedy came out on top against Chavez on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run second inning. The Cougars walked away with a 9-5 win over the Eagles.
Aubrie Rodriguez made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Rodriguez was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Melaney Velasco was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Brooklyn Williams was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Kennedy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chavez only posted a batting average of .310.
Meanwhile, Sierra Canyon was able to grind out a solid victory over Muir on Wednesday, taking the game 4-1.
Kennedy's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-7. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Canyon, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
