Basketball Game Preview: Amarillo Sandies vs. Monterey Plainsmen

Amarillo is on a 20-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Monterey is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Amarillo Sandies will host the Monterey Plainsmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Amarillo is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Texas' top teams: Tascosa, who was ranked 12th at the time (Amarillo was ranked seventh). Amarillo took a 55-49 hit to the loss column at the hands of Tascosa. The Sandies' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Monterey strolled past Tascosa with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 60-44.

Amarillo better keep an eye on Aaliyah Chavez. She was instrumental in Monterey's win, dropping a double-double on 25 points and 15 rebounds. The game was Chavez's 32nd in a row with at least ten points. Johnson Ari was another key player, putting up ten points along with seven boards and seven blocks.

Monterey is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 29-4 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 40.5 points. As for Amarillo, their loss dropped their record down to 26-5.
