Football Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kendall Piper and Quintin Lemmer Lead Clever to Victory

After losing to Springfield Catholic the last time they met, Clever decided to demonstrate that turnabout is fair play. The Blue Jays managed a 13-7 win over the Fighting Irish on Friday.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Quintin Lemmer and Kendall Piper. Lemmer rushed for 102 yards and one score while Piper rushed for 22 yards and one TD.

Clever didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Braxtyn Myers and Blaine Abbott.

Clever has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 13.6 points on average over those games. As for Springfield Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-2.

Clever and Springfield Catholic are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Blue Jays will take on Pleasant Hope/Halfway at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Clever will be up against Pleasant Hope/Halfway's rather soft defense (which has allowed 65.4 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Springfield Catholic, they will welcome Willow Springs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Fighting Irish will be up against the Bears' rather soft defense (which has allowed 37.33 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
