Baseball Game Preview: Watertown-Mayer Royals vs. New London-Spicer Wildcats

The Watertown-Mayer Royals are taking a road trip to take on the New London-Spicer Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Thursday, Watertown-Mayer needed a bit of extra time to put away Central. They had just enough and edged out the Raiders 5-4.

Noah Leuthner and Noah Weinzierl made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Leuthner tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Weinzierl didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over six innings pitched. Leuthner also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Watertown-Mayer is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 5-6 otherwise. At bat, Leuthner went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while Weinzierl got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base. Those three RBI gave Leuthner a new career-high.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when New London-Spicer took on Annandale on Thursday. The Wildcats never let the Cardinals get on the board and left with a 4-0 win. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Not much got past Logan Swenson, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Annandale off the board.

On the hitting side, Cole Laughlin was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Johnson, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Watertown-Mayer now has a winning record of 8-7. As for New London-Spicer, their record is now 11-6.

Watertown-Mayer suffered a grim 17-7 defeat to New London-Spicer in their previous matchup back in April. Can the Royals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
