It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Central Davidson ultimately got the result they hoped for on Monday. They won by a run and slipped past the Montgomery Central Timberwolves 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Timberwolves: they've now won four in a row.

Kailyn Mumford spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lauren Chesney, who went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Selah Trantham, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Central Davidson's win bumped their record up to 9-12. As for Montgomery Central, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 9-12.
