Given Pope John Paul II's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while Springfield is ranked 261st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Springfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tobias McGee, who scored 14 points along with two steals. Dequane Davis was another key contributor, scoring 12 points.
