Preview: Chaminade-Madonna Lions vs. Avant Garde Academy Sharks
Chaminade-Madonna has been on the road for four straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will take on The Avant Garde Academy Sharks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chaminade-Madonna will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each contest than the last.
Two weeks ago, Chaminade-Madonna took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 55-20 win over Dillard. The result was nothing new for Chaminade-Madonna, who have now won four matches by 21 points or more so far this season.
Chaminade-Madonna got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Cedrick Bailey out in front who threw for 201 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Bailey is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in the last three games he's played. Arwin Jackson was another key contributor, rushing for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries.
Meanwhile, Avant Garde Academy unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a tough 40-14 defeat at the hands of Jupiter Christian. Avant Garde Academy gained 177 more yards on the day, but it was Jupiter Christian that made the best of use of them.
Despite the defeat, Avant Garde Academy had strong showings from Simuel Wilson IV, who rushed for 229 yards and a touchdown on only 12 carries, and Kendrick Smith , who rushed for 179 yards and a touchdown. Smith 's longest rush was for an incredible 99 yards.
Chaminade-Madonna's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 7-0. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 5-1 American Heritage and 6-2 Coconut Creek (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 66% over those games). As for Avant Garde Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Chaminade-Madonna has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 156.9 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Avant Garde Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 148.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Everything came up roses for Chaminade-Madonna against Avant Garde Academy in their previous matchup back in November of 2022 as the squad secured a 48-0 win.
