Baseball Preview: Eureka Wildcats vs. Waynesville Tigers
The Eureka Wildcats will face off against the Waynesville Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Eureka's hitters haven't had much luck over their past three contests, but Wednesday's match will give them a chance to turn things around.
While Eureka's win against Webster Groves wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Wildcats narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Statesmen 2-1. Two seems to be a good number for the Wildcats as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Meanwhile, Waynesville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat. They lost 14-3 to Capital City.
Waynesville saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Carson Sutphin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double. Kael Warren also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Eureka has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-12 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Waynesville, their loss dropped their record down to 5-22.
