Basketball Game Preview: River Bluff Gators vs. Lugoff-Elgin Demons

The River Bluff Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Lugoff-Elgin Demons at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. River Bluff is looking for their season's first victory.

On Saturday, River Bluff was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to Northwestern. While losing is never fun, the Gators can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 223rd, while the Trojans are ranked 64th).

Meanwhile, Lugoff-Elgin scored the most points they've had this season on Friday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 74-69 hit to the loss column at the hands of Camden. Demons fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Bulldogs since Friday.

River Bluff will need to focus on slowing down JT Williams, one of several Lugoff-Elgin players who made an impact when they last played. He shot 73% from the field on his way to 17 points. Williams has also been stellar as far as shooting accuracy is concerned: he's posted one of at least 46% every time he's hit the court this season. Another player making a difference was Malik Woods, who posted 14 points and four steals.

River Bluff's defeat dropped their record down to 0-8. As for Lugoff-Elgin, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.

River Bluff suffered a grim 54-32 defeat to Lugoff-Elgin when the teams last played last Friday. Can the Gators avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
