Basketball Recap: Cristo Rey Takes a Loss

Cristo Rey lost against Veritas Collegiate Academy back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Cristo Rey Royals lost to the Veritas Collegiate Academy Spartans at home by a 60-43 margin. While losing is never fun, the Royals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while the Spartans are ranked 124th).

Marcqell Freeman was his usual excellent self, almost dropping a double-double with 18 points and nine assists for Veritas Collegiate Academy. Freeman is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 12 games he's played. Another player making a difference was Aijan Skeete, who posted 13 points.

Cristo Rey's defeat dropped their record down to 2-17. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.

Cristo Rey wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 79-60 loss against Veritas Collegiate Academy on the 18th. As for Veritas Collegiate Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 2-0 victory against Life Christian Academy on the 14th.
