Game recap: Mallard Creek High School Football Team takes down Hopewell

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. - The defense contributed on the scoring end for Mallard Creek (Charlotte, N.C.) on Saturday, totaling 12 points as the Mavericks defeated Hopewell (Huntersville, N.C.) 69-0.

After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Jaylen Samuels in the first quarter, the Mavericks were up 34-0 at the half.

Mallard Creek expanded its lead to 55 points entering the fourth quarter. MC scored three times in the third, including once on a James Smith touchdown pass to Nafees Lyon.

Even though the Charlotte school led by 55 entering the fourth quarter, it poured the points on, scoring 14 in the quarter.

Smith was the top performer for the Mavericks. He threw two touchdowns.



Mallard Creek went into the matchup giving up only 8.8 points per game.

In a 4A Conference 5 game next week Hopewell (1-5) takes on North Mecklenburg, and Mallard Creek (6-0) will go up against Hough also in a 4A Conference 5 game.
