Baseball Game Preview: Laurel Golden Tornadoes vs. Vancleave Bulldogs

For the second straight game, Laurel will face off against Vancleave. The Golden Tornadoes will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Laurel has struggled recently with 18 defeats in a row, while Vancleave will arrive with four straight wins.

Laurel fell victim to Vancleave and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 14-0.

For Vancleave's part, Aidan Tapp made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave Tapp a new career-high in strikeouts (three). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.

In other batting news, Hunter Harper was incredible, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Colson Furby was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Vancleave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .727. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in four consecutive matchups.

Vancleave's victory was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-5. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.9 runs over those games. As for Laurel, their loss dropped their record down to 3-19.
