Basketball Recap: Harding Academy Comes Up Short

Harding Academy was the 50-42 winner over Memphis Central when they last played one another back in December of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Lions took a 65-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warriors on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Warriors are ranked 15th).

Carlos Fitzgerald produced another solid performance putting up 20 points for Memphis Central. Makel Boyd was another key player, scoring 13 points.

Harding Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 6-2. As for Memphis Central, they pushed their record up to 11-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Harding Academy and Millington Central will compete for holiday cheer at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions will be up against the Trojans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 56.63 points per contest), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Memphis Central will take on Bolton in a holiday battle at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Warriors will be up against the Wildcats' rather soft defense (which has allowed 65.89 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
