Softball Recap: Burkburnett Extends Winning Streak to Three

Burkburnett waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They came out on top against the Castleberry Lions by a score of 8-3. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Bulldogs also won the last time the pair played back in February of 2017.

Kennedy Smith made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one triple. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Lydia Duff, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was EJ Dominguez, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.

Burkburnett was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .324 or higher in three consecutive games.

Burkburnett's record is now 9-15. As for Castleberry, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-16-1 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Burkburnett will face off against rival Decatur at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Castleberry is set to square off against their familiar foe Lake Worth at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
