Volleyball Recap: Sanger West Takes a Loss

After flying high against Sunnyside last Thursday, Sanger West came back down to earth. The Hornets fell just short of the Justin Garza Guardians by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. The loss continues a trend for the Hornets in their meetings with the Guardians: they've now lost five in a row.

While Sanger West ultimately came up short, they really made Justin Garza work, particularly in the third set. The final score came out to 29-31, 25-17, 26-24, 20-25, 15-13.

Austin Vang paced Sanger West's offense, picking up 22 kills. Vang got some help from Jayden Vang and his 43 assists. Austin was also a major player on defense: he and Jesiah Gallardo shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with three each.

Phillip Bell went supernova For Justin Garza., getting 20 digs and six assists. Those 20 digs gave Bell a new career-high.

Sanger West's defeat dropped their record down to 20-12. As for Justin Garza, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 21-9 record this season.

Sanger West will take on Edison at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Justin Garza, they will face off against Madera at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Guardians are facing the Coyotes at the right time seeing as the Coyotes are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
