The Mountain View Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the Los Gatos Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain View is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Mountain View will head out to face Los Gatos after giving up their first home loss of the season on Saturday. Mountain View fell 11-8 to Terra Nova. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this game were averaging three runs allowed.
Christian Bandy made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Orrock, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Even though they lost, Mountain View always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Los Gatos ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They had just enough and edged out Los Altos 2-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Chase Oberthier looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Los Gatos saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rowen Smith, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Beau Musser also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Los Gatos' record is now 9-3. As for Mountain View, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 9-3.
Mountain View's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's matchup. Mountain View has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Los Gatos, though, as they've been averaging only 1.3 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Mountain View continue to outrun the ball?
Mountain View suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Los Gatos in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Mountain View avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
