Basketball Recap: Kevin Gonzalez's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Wendover over Tabiona

While it was all tied up 22-22 at halftime, Wendover was not quite Tabiona's equal in the second half on Saturday. They fell 53-42 to the Tabiona Tigers. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their loss to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in February of 2024.

Wendover lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Kevin Gonzalez, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Raul Valle, who posted ten points.

Tabiona's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Gavin Rhoades led the charge by dropping a double-double on 22 points and 18 boards. Rhoades' evening made it six games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Bryson Fabrizio, who went 7 of 12 en route to 17 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks.

Wendover moved to 5-9 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Tabiona, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-3 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wendover will square off against Altamont at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Wendover is facing Altamont at the right time seeing as Altamont is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Tabiona, they will challenge Manila at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
