Softball Preview: Oak Lawn Spartans vs. Reavis Rams

Oak Lawn and Reavis are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Oak Lawn will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Oak Lawn barely beat Romeoville the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Oak Lawn was the clear victor by a 12-2 margin over Romeoville on Saturday. Considering Oak Lawn has won ten contests by more than six runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kaitlyn Berkery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits (and only one walk). Berkery was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.

In other batting news, Katie Casey was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. Danielle Dempsey was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one RBI.

Oak Lawn hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.

Lemont hit Reavis with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Rams lost 9-1 to the Lemont HS. The Rams haven't had much luck with the Lemont HS recently, as the team has come up short the last nine times they've met.

Reavis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sienna Aragones, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Oak Lawn's record now sits at 17-12. As for Reavis, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-15.

Oak Lawn took their victory against Reavis in their previous meeting back in April by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
