Basketball Recap: Beachwood Bison vs. Lutheran West Longhorns
The Beachwood Bison's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They took a 39-26 hit to the loss column at the hands of Lutheran West. Beachwood lost against the Longhorns in their previous head to head last Monday, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 62-17 score last time.
Despite the defeat, Beachwood had strong showings from Veronica Schwartz, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds, and Goldi Aschkenasy, who scored nine points along with six rebounds and two steals. That was a full 34.6% of Beachwood's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Lexi Jaffe was another key contributor, scoring five points along with two steals.
Beachwood struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Beachwood has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 13 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season. As for Lutheran West, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-8.
Beachwood will head out on the road to challenge the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully St. Martin de Porres focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 39 on Friday. As for Lutheran West, they will be playing at home against the Clippers at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Clearview is no doubt hoping to put an end to a seven-game streak of away losses.
